Labor PageWe give credit on this page to the unions which have expressed support for the California Democracy Act. As well as endorsements from the union leaders, many unions are working on this initiative at the local level by circulating petitions and speaking to their members. UPTE-CWA - University Professional and Technical Employees, Communications Workers of America Local 9119 AFL-CIO has a story about their endorsement of the California Democracy Act in their February newsletter p. 4 The North Bay Labor Council heard George Lakoff speak on Jan 27 and received him warmly. Most of the members signed and took petitions. They've been trying for years to eliminate the 2/3 rules on revenue and budget. The Oakland Education Association endorsed the California Democracy Act on Feb 1, 2010. The San Francisco Labor Council passed a resolution in June of 2008 in favor of restoring majority rule. As the Labor Council prepares for the onslaught of budget cuts, many of the participant unions have allied themselves with The California Democracy Act. And on Monday, Feb 8, the San Francisco Labor Council voted to recommend that the California Labor Federation endorse the California Democracy Act. Thank you SFLC!The California Labor Federation and The State Building and Construction Trades Council is holding a joint legislative conference on March 8 and 9 and we hope to be there to support labor and to gain allies for our initiative. The United Educators of San Francisco is one of the members of the San Francisco Labor Council. UESF has endorsed The California Democracy Act. They have helped us tremendously by putting our information on their newsletters and flyers. On Thursday, February 25, UESF will Co-sponsor Public Education Town Hall entitled Public Education: Funding Our Future. It will be held at Marina MS - 6:30-8:30 p.m. UESF President Dennis Kelly, Special Guest. We will have petition circulators there to gather signatures as the guests arrive. On Saturday, 1/23, AFSCME Council 57 endorsed the CA Democracy On Sat Feb 20, the United Public Workers for Action (UPWA) Other Labor Endorsements:
